
Meena Wells is a lawyer as well as a writer, and is of Indian (Sikh) descent. She has been writing poetry and short stories since she was 11 years old. Her first poem, ‘Growing Old’, was published in 1993 by Anchor books, in an anthology entitled The Human Element.
Meena read Law at the University of Central Lancashire, and at the same time she also successfully completed full term modules in creative writing and advanced French and set up 'The Listeners' which was the first UCL creative writing society.
After graduating, Meena took a post-graduate diploma in T.E.F.L, (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and thereafter left the UK to work and study in Japan for almost 6 years. In her spare time she wrote for local English language magazines, worked as a voice-over actress for Sony Corp, appeared as an extra in various soaps, ads and pop videos and taught English to kindergarten children in central Tokyo. Meena also studied Japanese, the art of the tea ceremony and Aikido.
Meena has travelled extensively, and spent time in Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, North America, Africa, and India. After leaving Japan, she spent a year in New Zealand working and travelling. It was here that she began her first novel. The first chapter, originally ‘The Purple Dress’ was initially written as a short story and was long-listed for the 2004 Fish Short Story Award.
Meena currently works for the Ministry of Justice as a legal advisor and specialises in child protection and domestic violence law. She is a member of the Verulam Writer’s Circle and is represented by Jessica Woollard of The Marsh Literary Agency.
